Selby Abbey

Without a doubt the most famous attraction in Selby is the stunning Selby Abbey. Open between 10am and 3pm daily, you can take a walk around the almost 1,000 year old building. Entry is free but donations are welcome in order to keep the Abbey maintained.

There is a gift shop inside and at Christmas time, you can walk around when the Christmas Tree is up for a more magical experience.

Selby Park

Selby Park is nature’s paradise in the heart of Selby, overlooking the famous Selby Abbey. There’s plenty of families to do, including mini golf, enjoy the picnic areas and play equipment for smaller children. There is also gym equipment for the public to use which can be found situated around the mini golf course.

The pavilion is often host to a range of music and entertainment in the Summer months. If you are looking for refreshments, Lola’s Cafe is just a stone’s throw away from the park itself, serving delicious hot meals, snacks and drinks.

Doubtfire’s is the local ice -cream vendor who regularly parks up outside Wetherall’s department store, except for Sunday’s when they pitch up next to Selby Park.

Market day in Selby is Monday, with vendors offering locally sourced food, a range of fashion and other nik naks so grab yourself a bargain and support local trade.

Selby Skate Park

Located behind Selby Leisure Centre, the Skate Park is free to use and popular among the younger generation in Selby.

Riccall Park

Whilst there are a range of parks for local residents to take advantage of, Riccall Park seems to be a firm favourite and is located just 4 miles outside of Selby. 

The zip-line is one of the main attractions as well as the large amount of grassed area that can be used for football or other outdoor sports.

Selby Park

Selby Park, as mentioned above, is located right in the centre of the town, with play equipment, mini golf and bowling green within the boundaries.

Barlow Nature Reserve

Located just 4 miles outside of Selby, Barlow Nature Reserve is a real oasis of calm surrounded by countryside. Parking is free and there are no entrance fees, so you can take advantage of the nature reserve any time or day.

There are fun activities for children to get involved in including nature trails and there’s a dedicated path that is gravelled and easy for all abilities to manage. Pushchairs would be able to manage but it can get a bit dusty, particularly in the dry months.

On an evening, there’s plenty of Rabbits and bird life to spot and it’s an excellent place to sit and watch the sunset.

Skipwith Common

You will need a car to get to Skipwith Common as there are no direct transport links. Alternatively, you could walk from Riccall or bike from Selby and surrounding villages.

Skipwith Common is popular with dog walkers, but dogs must be kept on a lead due to grazing livestock.
